Hollows Barn
4 unit barn conversion in progress under Class Q
location:
Staffordshire
project type:
Conversions / In Progress
Hollows Barn development looks to create 4 residential units using a traditional brick barn and a modern steel frame barn. This project is due to begin in Spring 2022.
The change of use and conversion of agricultural buildings now falls under what is known as ‘Permitted Development’ however to do so a ‘Prior Approval’ application must be submitted to the local authority, this is very much like an ordinary planning application, however, unlike an normal planning application the principle for conversion is already supported provided that a number of criteria can be met.
In 2018 Class Q Prior Approval limits was increased to 5 units and if you are able to exercise the full possibilities there is scope to gain change of use for up to 865m2 of floor area.
The process is strict and relatively complicated, not all architectural designers will have knowledge of this process therefore if you have a rural barn building that you feel might be fit for conversion it is best to speak to us at B3architectural. Why not ‘say hello’.
