Ramblers Hideaway

Free standing PV's alongside Ancient Woodland

location:

Staffordshire

Ramblers Hideaway is a large 600m2 Country House set within Ancient Woodland in the open countryside. The house benefits from four floor levels of accommodation with a magnificent galleried staircase, six double bedrooms all with en-suites, and a basement with leisure complex and swimming pool. The house is also around half a mile from a road up a steep hill meaning there is no Gas connection.

As a result the previous homeowner had installed two Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP's) to provide a more sustainable method of heating in comparison to the Oil Stored system that is also on site as a backup. These ASHP's run at an input of 18KW. This means that over the course of time they are relatively expensive to run.

The proposals would look to site freestanding PV's in the most suitable location on the applicants land, outside the domestic curtilage in a paddock area. This was because the surrounding Ancient Woodland was so tall and mature that the PV's would not be efficient closer to the house. As a result, full planning permission was required.

As usual, B3 expertly navigated the planning process, taking care of all work and putting a strong supporting argument for the proposals to the Local Authority. This was approved in circa 10 weeks.

On projects such as this, B3 works in conjunction with our friends at 'Solar Star Power' of Uttoxeter who provide us with the technical details to maximise the site, and supply and install the PV's themselves.
